Margo’s Story
Living Her Purpose
The first form for The Savvy Patient’s Toolkit in her head the day Margo Corbett’s husband was told he was in kidney failure and might not live through the night. His doctor had failed to connect months of changing symptoms to each other and to his underlying conditions. Margo, herself, has survived three medical errors and cancer decided it was time they take control of their health care. She advocated for her husband through his recovery and an elderly neighbor for the next two years. During that time, she continued to develop forms to track of their care at the point of need. As people learned of the forms they requested copies for their own use and as it is said, “The rest is history.”
As she wrote the book, she realized how much we as patients can do to positively affect timely and accurate diagnoses, the outcome of our care, how we can help our clinicians help us, prevent medical errors and why it is so important we do so in today’s health care environment. She feels God kept her alive for this mission as all of her seemingly disconnected personal experiences, formal and informal training and job experiences came together in the development of the Savvy Patient Health System.
